5561 Grand Knight
CURTIS GEARHART A.K.A. JR
GK's Message - Fraternal Year 2016/2017
It is my honor to take the reins from our outgoing Grand Knight, Joe Tullington, a stalwart Catholic gentleman whose legacy of service and leadership will be hard to replicate. As he will be the first to concede, Council #5561 begins our new Fraternal Year in exceptionally good shape by virtue of your collective efforts in support of our Priests, Parish and Community.
For those of you who don’t know me yet, I am JR Gearhart. I joined the Knights of Columbus a few short years ago here at Saint John’s the Evangelist parish. My wife Kathy and I have been parishioners here since 2011. We are the proud parents of two children and raised them in the faith. Professionally, I work on the Parts counter for Alban Cat in Sterling, Va., selling parts for all Caterpillar equipment.
My priorities for the new Fraternal Year are straightforward:
· Continue the legacy programs which our Council has long provided to our parish and community;
· Align our best efforts towards Mercy, corporal and spiritual, and the priorities set by our priests;
· Enrich our growth as Catholic men; and
· Encourage teamwork, unity and fraternal collaboration within our Council and with the wider Order of the Knights of Columbus of which we are an integral part.
Towards that purpose, I ask you for the same outstanding support that you never failed to give PGK Joe and all of the superb Grand Knights who preceded him. We have several important activities on the immediate horizon. After the summer hiatus, we plan to ramp up quickly with our regular pancake breakfasts, sub sales and various parish and fraternal activities.
Of special note, the Council recently voted to authorize another Grand Raffle. Last year’s success was instrumental in raising the funds needed to Feed the Hungry, our flagship charity. This year’s Grand Raffle is equally essential to support our many ongoing charities and programs. Success makes Service possible. We need every Knight to do his part to achieve it.
During the last issue of Knights Herald, we included a Survey to canvas your inputs for the upcoming Fraternal Year. If you haven’t already done so, please take a few moments to complete that form, or submit your inputs online at our website:
In closing, thank you for being a Knight, and thank you for the opportunity to serve as Grand Knight for Council #5561. I promise you my very best efforts and fidelity to our shared values of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism as together we meet the challenges ahead.
Yours in Christ,
